Te āhua o Te Tūrunga – The nature of the position
We are looking for a skilled IDI Analyst to join our team of researchers and analysts and contribute to our analysis and research projects within Stats NZ Integrated Data Infrastructure. The role will suit someone who enjoys being proactive and taking initiative rather than awaiting instruction. The analyst team is the central hub bringing together all the data and research on our sectors, learners, and providers.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to research and analysis to inform on how some of the big global and domestic trends like climate change, technological disruption and the future of work will impact our sector, and draw out insights for what this means for our sectors’ workforces and their vocational education needs.
As the IDI Analyst in our research and analysis team, you’ll play a leading role in shaping and delivering our work programme. This will include:
- Understanding our commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and incorporating that throughout your work
- Conduct research and analysis projects to build the evidence base for Muka Tangata’s work.
- Collaborating as part of a team of skilled researchers and analysts and supporting junior staff members
- Collaborate across the organisation to effectively communicate data, evidence, and insights.
- Providing technical/subject matter expertise, growing our capabilities to support our research and analysis.

The IDI Analyst position provides an excellent opportunity to support research and analysis which will underpin tangible improvements for communities and industries in Aotearoa.
Some of the skills and attributes we are looking for are:

- Proven ability to undertake analytical work using Stats NZ IDI.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to mentor others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in quantitative research methods, with qualitative methods as an advantage.
- Quick learner with the ability to grasp new concepts.
- Professional, positive, and flexible approach to problem solving.
- Skills in storytelling, data visualization, and presenting an advantage.
